Buy your own day online, bend time to your will!
by Matt L. in 19.08.2010 00:00

BuyOwnDay lets you buy yourself a day for $1.

What does that mean? Simple: on the website at http://www.buyownday.com , you can select and purchase any day, from 3,000 BC to 3,000 AD, and become that day's exclusive owner!

Once you have purchased a day, you can add your own description, name and link, as well as a smiley icon, or even a picture (such as a corporate logo) if you have bought more than 90 consecutive days.

All of the days are displayed on the calendar at http://www.buyownday.com . There you can see which days are available and which already have an owner.

The idea behind http://www.buyownday.com for more), or because the day is unique or just has your name written all over it.

Like I mentioned, the days are displayed on the calendar and in the list at http://www.buyownday.com/daylist.htm , but the largest periods (the biggest blocks of consecutive days) that have been purchased are displayed most often. This can be useful for maximizing impact and page views when advertising, for example.

Days can be bought with one click: choose a day you like (or a number of days), click Buy Now, write whatever you want, pay $1 for each day and do whatever you like with it!

Who can take advantage of this crazy service? Anyone who has $1 on their credit card and Internet access - that's over a billion people. In total, there are 2,190,749 days on the site. That's enough to cover a goodly number of people :) There's a counter which shows the number of days bought and the number available, so anyone can check to see how successful the project is at any given time.

Be sure to note that once bought, a day belongs ONLY to the person who bought that day. For example, if somebody buys January 1, 2000, that means that absolutely nobody else will be able to buy that day.

The same day can have different meanings for different people, and the reasons why they buy days are extremely diverse as well. Days are bought and used for any number of reasons:

- as a present (for a friend, boyfriend/girlfriend or child);

- as a gag;

- to express your approval or displeasure with government policy or a particular politician;

- to write down your interpretation of a historical event;

- to commemorate the launch day for your own product;

- to make a little-known holiday get the recognition it deserves;

- to celebrate your company's anniversary;

- to schedule a date;

- to advertise goods or services;

- to let your customers or visitors know that you share their values;

- to leave an anonymous pleasant surprise for somebody special;

- just for kicks!
