The auditions for places at drama school from September this year are well-and-truly underway and some are even drawing to a close. Whilst so many young performers apply for training and other opportunities which will shape their future as performers, you may be starting to think about what lies ahead for you as a performer.



As you begin to look at all the options, you should remember two things. First, make sure you do enough research to know about as many training opportunities out there as possible. Quite often, young performers will hear about a particular drama school or hear a success story from a particular dance college and, all of a sudden, they've decided that's where they want to go. Of course, it might be the perfect place for you to grow, develop and train in the performing arts. But, if you haven't looked at all the options, how do you know?



As you look at all the schools, colleges and universities offering performing arts training, you will find some which are too far away from home, too expensive, too big or too small and some may not offer a course which is suitable for you at all. But you'll only know about all of this when you have taken the time to do some research. The second thing to remember when you're thinking about future training opportunities is to visit the schools, colleges or universities you are most interested in. Once you've taken the time to create a shortlist of places you like the look of, you should arrange to visit them and talk to some of the students on the course you're most interested in. Only then will you be able to get an impression of whether a place is the place for you and most young performers say that when they went to visit the drama schools, colleges and universities they were interested, they 'just knew' when they found the place for them.



So, as you think ahead, remember, do your research, look at all the options and take the time to visit the places you are most interested in. There's more than one way to get into the performing arts industry, so what's most important is to find the training which suits you best.
