Spill King- The Most Effective and Efficient Spill Absorbant

Spill absorbents are necessary to successfully clean up the mess that is created by an oil spill on land. Similar to needing band aids and cotton balls in a first aid kit, you need spill absorbents in a clean-up kit in order to get the job done right. They are valuable safety tools that can save you from paying the fines and dealing with the damage that an oil spill can cause.

Spill absorbents are composed of fibers which absorb and contain an oil spill. There are several basic types of spill absorbents. These include booms, socks, pads, clay, and then there is our product, Spill King™. Some of these products can be used to complement each other. For instance, once the boom has contained the oil spill, the pads will speed up the oil absorbing process. These spill absorbents are all essential in the treatment of an oil spill accident. The difference between other products and the Spill King™ product is that Spill King™ uses less product and at the same time is more effective. Because smaller quantities of the product are needed to treat the spill, less of it can be kept on a vehicle and therefore solve many space-saving concerns.

Absorbent Booms

In terms of a first aid kit, booms are like band aids. Oil absorbent booms have qualities that help both contain and absorb the spill. However, it is primarily used as a tool to help contain the spill in a specific area and therefore keep the spill from creating more unnecessary damage. Basically, it stops the oil from spreading by forming a barrier around the oil spill. Booms can be linked together. These chains are made up of sections of single booms that are available with a diameter of 5 inches to 8 inches and in lengths of 10 feet to 20 feet. They are commonly connected by carbon metal hooks. The tubular shape makes it possible to cover larger areas than absorbent pads alone. Their bright white finish makes it easier to determine if they need replacement. In large water areas, it is usually held together by two vessels to form an enclosure. On land areas, they can be placed around the contaminated area. Booms serve like a wall to prevent the oil from leaking further.

Absorbent Pads:

Pads are the like the cotton in the first aid kit. They absorb the oil from the environment upon contact. The absorbency of the pads make it a great choice when cleaning up an oil spill. There are varieties of absorbent pads that all serve a variety of purposes. Different pads are designed to target specific types of contaminants. Some pads are made to be used only for water based spills. They are generally white and will not sink in water. They repel water and absorb hydrocarbons only. Other absorbent pads are constructed to have anti-static qualities that prevent sparks from igniting a fire. There are also some absorbent pads which are designed to provide protection for the user. These last two types of pads are more convenient to use around smaller spills and not on spills that are on large bodies of water.

Clay Absorbents:

Clay granules don't really soak up anything; they just become coated with liquid which eventually seeps through, making even more of a mess to clean up. If this method is chosen, you will spend more time and money on spill clean-up than what is actually needed. Although clay is seen as the cheaper substitute, you really save money by utilizing loose absorbent alternatives, such as Spill King™. Loose absorbents will soak up to three times more than clay absorbents, meaning that you will use less and spend less time and money on clean-up.

Spill King™

Spill King™ is a non-toxic, non-flammable, environmentally safe and friendly, lightweight, and powerful substance that can absorb and hold all liquids* while leaving little or no residue. Less than half a pound of Spill King Absorbent™ can completely absorb one quart of motor oil without leaving any residue to re-clean. Clay, earth, and sand products require fifteen pounds of material to absorb the same amount and would leave a slippery residue. Spill King™ requires far less absorbent to capture a spill, resulting in greatly reduced disposal costs. Spill King™ works on all animal, vegetable, mineral, petroleum based, or semi-liquid spills. Spill King™ meets or exceeds all OSHA and EPA requirements for health and safety. Unlike Kitty Litter products that contain crystalline and silica, Spill King™ does not, under OSHA standards, qualify as a carcinogen, or as a substance causing silicosis, a lung disease. Spill King™ requires far less absorbent to capture a spill, resulting in greatly reduced disposal costs. Spill King™ is non-injurious to most surfaces including cement, asphalt, tile, and carpet. Because it leaves no residue, there is no fear of slipping or falling. Spill King™ will save money on shipping, storage, and disposal. It's light weight and high absorbency will make it easier to handle (which can help to minimize worker's compensation claims). Clay, earth, and sand products come in 40 to 50 pound bags, while one Spill King™ bag at 10 pounds equals three 50 pound bags of these products.
