Sunless tanning is a method of applying sprayed chemicals to the body to acquire a tan, just in the same way one would acquire while sun-bathing. It is a known fact that people like having a sun-tanned body, and this makes them lie down in the sun for hours to get the tan they are looking for. However, once the connection between skin cancer and UV rays from the sun was known, chemical companies came with this bright idea of getting a tan just by spraying a chemical, just in the same way as one would spray perfume or deodorant. This method started becoming hugely popular along with other methods of artificial sun tanning beds. However, this aspect realy took off just because of the fact that a sprayed chemical which is certified harmless to the body, especially the skin, can give the famous sun-tanned look.



The lotion or sprays of chemicals on the skin actually induces a chemical reaction between the amino acids in the dead skin on the body and a chemical known as DHA in the Sunless tanning lotion. This leads to the browning of the skin and in the course leaving a tanned appearance. The tan, however, fades within a week.



Risks Of Sunless Tanning



The biggest risk is the fact that the sunless tanning agent does not contain a sunscreen chemical. It may though provide a good tan, but it will not protect from the UV rays. However, there some companies researching on this aspect in order to provide a protection agent along with a tanning one.



Another problem is that most of these lotions are not quick drying ones. So if clothes are worn immediately after application, there is a risk of staining. There are other risks of sunless tanning as well. These may be due to inhaling, ingesting or spraying in the eye accidently. Protection is always advised.
