Searching by genre is fine if you're just looking for something new, but if you look to see what bands are being linked to by musicians you already know you'll like, there's a far greater chance that you'll actually like the majority of what you find.

For one, if you use a music social network site that allows you to have control over what and how your share with others in the online community, you'll be a lot better off. Being able to price your own music is a luxury that most bands never have. It allows you to create a price that affords you the income that you need to live and make more music, while still being affordable to your fans. It also allows you to do more than just sell singles of your hit songs of single releases- you'll be able to sell individual songs however you like.
